Health Occupations Students of America
H O S A
HOSA, which stands for Health Occupations Students of America, is a prestigious organization that promotes the medical field among middle and high schoolers and college students. It is broken up into dozens of events that encompass various subfields of medicine, including CPR and nursing, knowledge tests, volunteer work, etc. HOSA’s mission to encourage students aspiring to enter the medical field aligns well with HSN Medforum’s goal.
The tryout process for the HSN HOSA team will be conducted in 2 parts. The first part will be a general test covering basic medical topics. The second test will be event based where you can pick any of 2 events at the corresponding level of the HOSA competition that you are trying for. The event based tryouts will be in a similar format to the actual exam. Each person must take all 3 tests and there will be makeups if you cannot make it to some. Based on the cumulative results of the 3 tests, we will choose the most qualified people for each event in the HOSA competition. The HOSA competition has 3 levels: Regional, State and International. As you proceed through the levels, you will face more challenging competitors. Some events are only available at the state and international level, so a second tryout will be conducted for those events. In order to qualify for states, you must get 5th place or higher in your event. In order to qualify for nationals, you must get 3rd place or higher in your event. HOSA is a very professional competition and all members must wear proper attire while at the competition. Awards are handed out in an award ceremony after the competition.
